COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science/Master of Teaching (Secondary) requires students to complete 36 credit points, combining scientific study with professional teacher education. The course includes the compulsory Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin module, Laboratory and Fieldwork Safety Induction Program, and Career Tools for Employability. The Bachelor of Science component consists of 24 credit points, including 9 credit points of core science units, one major of 6 credit points, 2 credit points of chemistry electives, 4 credit points of education electives, and 5 credit points of electives from a second science major. Students must also meet level requirements, including a minimum number of level 3 science units. The Master of Teaching (Secondary) component contributes 12 credit points and includes compulsory literacy, numeracy and trauma-informed practice modules, along with 8 credit points of core education units and 4 credit points of electives from two teaching specialist areas. Students must achieve the required academic performance standards and satisfy the requirements of both the Bachelor of Science and Master of Teaching (Secondary) programs. This structure develops advanced scientific knowledge, teaching expertise, practical classroom skills and professional capabilities needed for a successful career as a secondary science educator.
