COURSE CURRICULUM

Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, students must pass 32 credit points, including the compulsory 0-credit-point Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin unit (DAI001), 31 credit points of core occupational therapy units, and 1 credit point of open elective study. The course is designed as a full-time program with students typically completing four credit points per trimester across two trimesters each year. The curriculum begins with foundational studies in health, anatomy, physiology, communication, occupational science and therapy principles. As students progress, they explore areas such as occupational performance, childhood development, neurological function, health data, evidence-based practice, psychosocial influences, assessment and intervention strategies. The degree includes extensive practice education and interprofessional learning, preparing students to work effectively with diverse populations. In later years, students complete professional practice placements and advanced units focused on assistive technology, clinical reasoning, transition to professional practice and innovation in occupational therapy. Eligible high-achieving students may be invited to complete the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) pathway, requiring additional honours units and a research project. The course develops the knowledge, practical skills and professional capabilities required for a successful career as an occupational therapist across healthcare, disability, community and rehabilitation settings.
