COURSE CURRICULUM

Bachelor of Nutrition Science/Bachelor of Commerce, students must successfully complete 32 credit points, combining nutrition science expertise with business knowledge. The course includes 16 credit points from the Bachelor of Nutrition Science, consisting of core nutrition units, and 16 credit points from the Bachelor of Commerce, including eight credit points of core commerce units and one commerce major sequence. Students begin with compulsory zero-credit-point units, including DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, HSN010 Food and Nutrition Laboratory Safety, and SLE010 Laboratory and Fieldwork Safety Induction Program, which prepare them for academic and practical learning. Nutrition studies cover foundations of food and health, anatomy and physiology, food science, sustainable food systems, nutritional physiology, diet and disease, lifespan nutrition, food policy, population nutrition and food assessment. Commerce studies develop skills in accounting, finance, economics, law, marketing, management, business analytics and professional practice, with students choosing a specialised major. The course integrates scientific learning with commercial understanding through practical experiences such as food sensory evaluation and the Food and Nutrition Practicum. Students develop analytical, communication and strategic skills while gaining insight into the food industry. This combined structure prepares graduates for careers across nutrition, health promotion, food innovation, business management and related sectors.
