COURSE CURRICULUM

Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Public Health and Health Promotion, students must successfully complete 32 credit points, including 21 credit points of core nursing units and 11 credit points of core public health and health promotion units. The course begins with the compulsory zero-credit-point unit, DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, completed during the first study period. Nursing studies develop essential skills in anatomy and physiology, healthcare safety, nursing practice, person-centred assessment, child and adolescent care, medicines management, acute care, mental health, chronic illness, aged care and comprehensive clinical practice. Public health and health promotion studies focus on disease prevention, primary healthcare, environmental health, communication, professional practice, epidemiology, biostatistics, program planning, population health research, contemporary health issues and implementation evaluation. Throughout the degree, students build knowledge and practical skills to address health challenges at individual, community and population levels. The course integrates evidence-based practice, research, healthcare quality and safety principles, preparing students to deliver effective nursing care while developing strategies that promote healthier communities. In the final year, students complete a Health Practicum, gaining valuable industry experience, alongside advanced nursing practice units. By satisfying the requirements of both degrees, graduates are equipped with clinical expertise and public health capabilities for diverse healthcare careers.
