COURSE CURRICULUM

To complete Deakin University’s Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Psychological Science, students must successfully complete 32 credit points, consisting of 20 credit points of core nursing units and 12 credit points of core psychology units. The course begins with the compulsory zero-credit-point unit, DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, completed during the first study period. Nursing studies develop essential skills in healthcare safety, anatomy and physiology, person-centred assessment, clinical practice, primary healthcare, evidence-based practice, medicines management, acute care, mental health, chronic illness, aged care and comprehensive nursing practice. Psychology studies provide a strong understanding of human behaviour, psychological practice, social psychology, individual development, cognitive processes, biological psychology, research methods, personality, developmental psychology and psychopathology. Throughout the degree, students integrate nursing and psychological knowledge to understand both physical and mental health needs and deliver holistic patient care. The course structure combines theoretical learning with practical applications, preparing students to work effectively with individuals, families and communities across diverse healthcare settings. By satisfying the requirements of both the Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Psychological Science, graduates develop a unique combination of clinical expertise and behavioural science knowledge, supporting careers in nursing, mental health services, community healthcare and further professional psychology pathways.
