COURSE CURRICULUM

To complete Deakin University’s Bachelor of Medical Imaging, students must successfully complete 32 credit points, including 30 credit points of core units and two credit points of course elective units. The course begins with the compulsory zero-credit-point unit, DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, completed during the first study period. Across four years of study, students develop comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in medical radiation science, medical imaging technologies and clinical practice. Early units introduce foundational concepts through Medical Radiation Science, Foundation Principles and Application of Medical Imaging, and Medical Imaging Practice, establishing essential skills in patient care, imaging procedures and professional practice. As students progress, they undertake advanced studies in medical radiation science, imaging principles, clinical techniques and specialised modalities. Later years focus on advanced imaging areas, including CT, MRI, interventional procedures and other complex diagnostic techniques, supported by extensive practical training. Students complete multiple Medical Imaging Practice units throughout the degree, gaining supervised clinical experience and applying theoretical knowledge in real healthcare environments. In the final year, students study research methods and critical appraisal while completing advanced clinical practice, with the option to specialise through electives such as Advanced Modalities or Practice Management. This structured program prepares graduates with the scientific knowledge, technical expertise and professional capabilities required for careers as registered diagnostic radiographers.
