COURSE CURRICULUM

To complete Deakin University’s Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics, students must successfully complete 40 credit points that combine legal expertise with advanced knowledge of political, philosophical and economic systems. The course begins with the compulsory zero-credit-point unit, DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, which must be completed during the first study period. Students complete 16 credit points from the Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics, including seven credit points of core units that develop understanding of governance, public policy, ethics, economics and social challenges. Students also undertake two discipline streams, each worth four credit points, selected from areas such as philosophy, politics and policy studies, and economic policy, allowing them to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals. The PPE component also includes one credit point from the Employability sequence, designed to strengthen professional skills and workplace readiness, with students required to complete a minimum of four credit points at level 3. The remaining 24 credit points are completed within the Bachelor of Laws, including 18 credit points of core law units, one credit point of Work Integrated Learning or practical law elective units, and five credit points of law course electives. Students must satisfy all requirements of both degrees, developing the legal, analytical and strategic skills needed for careers in law, policy, government, consulting and business.
