COURSE CURRICULUM

To complete Deakin University’s Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of International Studies, students must successfully complete 40 credit points that integrate legal education with international studies and global perspectives. The course begins with the compulsory zero-credit-point unit, DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, which must be completed during the first study period. Students undertake 24 credit points from the Bachelor of Laws, including 18 credit points of core units that develop knowledge across major areas of legal practice and theory. The law component also includes one credit point of Work Integrated Learning or practical course elective units, providing opportunities to apply legal knowledge in professional environments, along with five credit points of law course electives that allow students to expand their legal expertise. The remaining 16 credit points are completed within the Bachelor of International Studies, consisting of six credit points of core units that build understanding of global issues, international systems and intercultural communication. Students complete one international studies major worth eight credit points and undertake a minimum of two credit points of approved international experience, normally completed in the third or fourth year, through activities such as overseas study, internships or other global learning opportunities. Students must satisfy all requirements of both the Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of International Studies, developing the legal knowledge, global awareness and practical skills needed for international career pathways.
