COURSE CURRICULUM

Deakin University’s Bachelor of International Studies, students must successfully complete 24 credit points that combine foundational international knowledge, specialised study and practical global experiences. The course begins with the compulsory zero-credit-point unit, DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, which must be completed during the first study period to establish essential academic practices. Students undertake six credit points of core units that develop an understanding of globalisation, international issues, cultural diversity, global development and intercultural communication. Students then complete one major consisting of eight credit points, allowing them to specialise in a chosen area and develop expertise aligned with their career aspirations. A key feature of the degree is the requirement to complete a minimum of two credit points of approved international experience, which may include overseas study, internships, language programs or other global learning opportunities. The remaining credit points can be used to complete an additional major, open elective units or approved studies outside the Faculty of Arts and Education, providing flexibility to tailor the degree. Students may complete a maximum of eight credit points outside the faculty, undertake no more than 10 credit points at level 1, and must complete at least six credit points at level 3 to demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills. This structure prepares graduates for diverse international careers through a balance of academic learning, specialisation and practical global engagement.
