COURSE CURRICULUM

Deakin University’s Bachelor of Health and Physical Education, students must successfully complete 32 credit points that combine education, health and physical education studies with professional teaching preparation. The program includes several compulsory zero-credit units completed during the early stages of the course, including DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin in the first study period, ETI010 Trauma Informed Practice, ELN010 Australian Literacy Test and ELN011 Australian Numeracy Test during the first year, as well as HSE010 Exercise and Sport Laboratory Safety before laboratory classes commence. Students complete 26 credit points of core units covering curriculum and pedagogy, health education, physical education, movement science, anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, motor learning, professional practice and supervised school placements. To broaden their teaching expertise, students also undertake four credit points of discipline study units in a third teaching method area, such as biology, chemistry, English, mathematics or history, along with two credit points of curriculum study units related to that discipline. The course requires students to complete a maximum of 10 credit points at level 1 and a minimum of 10 credit points at level 3 or above, ensuring progressive development of advanced knowledge and professional competence. This structured curriculum prepares graduates with the academic knowledge, practical teaching experience and leadership skills required for successful careers in secondary health and physical education.
