COURSE CURRICULUM

To complete Deakin University’s Bachelor of Forensic Science/Bachelor of Criminology, students must successfully complete 32 credit points that combine scientific investigation with criminological studies. The forensic science component contributes 16 credit points and includes compulsory zero-credit units such as DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, SLE010 Laboratory and Fieldwork Safety Induction Program, and STP010 Career Tools for Employability, which establish essential academic, safety and professional foundations. Students also complete 10 credit points of core forensic science units, including one shared core unit with criminology, ACR102, and undertake a six-credit-point major in either forensic biology or forensic chemistry to develop specialised scientific expertise. The criminology component comprises 16 credit points, including six credit points of core units covering crime, justice and criminal behaviour, six credit points of criminology elective units that allow students to explore specialised topics, and four credit points of elective units selected from Bachelor of Arts major sequences to broaden interdisciplinary knowledge. Students must complete at least six credit points at level 3 while undertaking no more than 12 credit points at level 1, ensuring progressive academic development. To graduate, all academic requirements for both the Bachelor of Forensic Science and the Bachelor of Criminology must be satisfied, preparing graduates for professional careers in forensic science, criminal justice, law enforcement and related fields.
