COURSE CURRICULUM

To complete Deakin University’s Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science/Bachelor of Nutrition Science, students must successfully complete a total of 32 credit points, integrating studies in exercise science and nutrition. The course includes several compulsory zero-credit units designed to establish academic integrity and laboratory safety, including DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, which is completed during the first study period, HSN010 Food and Nutrition Laboratory Safety, which must be completed before undertaking the first laboratory-based nutrition unit, and SLE010 Laboratory and Fieldwork Safety Induction Program, which is required before enrolling in any SLE-coded unit. Students complete 16 credit points within the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science, consisting entirely of core units that develop knowledge in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor learning, health promotion and sport science practice. The remaining 16 credit points are completed within the Bachelor of Nutrition Science, including 15 core units covering human nutrition, food science, nutritional physiology, food systems and public health nutrition, together with one HSN-coded elective that allows students to expand their knowledge in a specialised area of nutrition. To graduate, students must satisfy all academic and practical requirements of both degree programs, ensuring they develop the scientific knowledge, practical skills and professional competencies needed for careers in exercise science, nutrition, health promotion and sports performance.
