COURSE CURRICULUM

To complete Deakin University’s Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science/Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) with a Mechanical Engineering major, students must successfully complete a total of 42 credit points, combining comprehensive study in exercise science and engineering. The program includes several compulsory zero-credit units that establish essential academic, professional and safety foundations, including DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, STP010 Career Tools for Employability, SEJ010 Introduction to Safety and Project Oriented Learning, and HSE010 Exercise and Sport Laboratory Safety, all of which must be completed during the early stages of the course. Students undertake 15 credit points of core units from the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science, covering subjects such as anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology and sport science practice. The remaining 27 credit points consist of core Mechanical Engineering units, developing knowledge in engineering mathematics, mechanics, materials, manufacturing, product design, thermodynamics and engineering systems. Students who have not completed VCE Mathematical Methods Units 3 and 4 are advised to undertake SIT190 Introduction to Functions, Relations and Graphs during their first trimester to strengthen their mathematical foundation. The integrated course structure ensures graduates develop advanced scientific knowledge, engineering expertise, practical problem-solving abilities and industry-ready skills required for careers in sports engineering, rehabilitation technology, biomechanics, product development and exercise science.
