COURSE CURRICULUM

To complete the Bachelor of Education (Primary), students must successfully pass 32 credit points and satisfy all course requirements. The degree begins with compulsory 0-credit-point units, including DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin, which must be completed in the first study period to support academic integrity and responsible learning practices. In the first year, students must also complete ELN010 Australian Literacy Test, ELN011 Australian Numeracy Test and ETI010 Trauma Informed Practice, which prepare future educators with essential literacy, numeracy and inclusive teaching skills. The course consists of 31 credit points of core units that develop comprehensive knowledge and practical capabilities required for primary teaching across foundation to Year 6. These units cover areas such as curriculum planning, teaching methods, classroom management, professional practice and student learning. Students also complete 1 credit point of advanced study aligned with their chosen primary subject specialisation, allowing them to deepen their expertise in a particular teaching area. To meet graduation requirements, students can complete a maximum of 10 credit points at level 1 and must achieve a minimum of 10 credit points at level 3 or above. This structure ensures graduates develop strong theoretical knowledge, practical teaching experience and the professional skills needed for successful careers as primary educators.
