COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Design (Architecture) at Deakin University is a 24-credit-point program that provides students with a comprehensive foundation in architectural design, creative problem-solving, and the built environment. The course begins with compulsory units including Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin and the Safety Induction Program, ensuring students understand academic standards and safe working practices in studio and workshop environments. Students complete 22 credit points of core units that develop knowledge and practical skills in architectural design, design communication, construction technologies, building science, architectural history, digital modelling, sustainable design, and professional practice. Through studio-based learning and project work, students progressively build their design capabilities while applying creative and technical concepts to real-world architectural challenges. In addition, students complete 2 credit points of open elective units, allowing them to broaden their knowledge by exploring complementary disciplines that support their personal interests and career aspirations. The course structure maintains academic progression through a maximum of 10 credit points at level 1 and a minimum of 6 credit points at level 3, ensuring students gain both foundational understanding and advanced design expertise. This balanced combination of core studies, practical experience, and flexible learning prepares graduates for further professional architectural education and careers within architecture, design, construction, and the built environment sector.
