COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Data Science (Honours) at Deakin University is a 32-credit-point program designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and practical expertise in data science, analytics, and emerging technologies. The course begins with compulsory units including Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin and Career Tools for Employability, providing students with essential academic and professional foundations. Students complete 17 credit points of core units covering key areas such as mathematics, statistics, programming, data management, machine learning, artificial intelligence, data modelling, and predictive analytics. To strengthen practical and industry-focused learning, the program includes 3 credit points of data science capstone units, where students apply their technical and analytical skills to solve real-world business and data challenges. Students also undertake 4 credit points of data science research training capstone units, culminating in an honours research project that develops advanced research, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. The remaining 8 credit points provide flexibility through either two minors or one minor combined with 4 credit points of open elective units, allowing students to tailor their studies according to their interests and career goals. The course requires a maximum of 10 credit points at level 1 and a minimum of 10 credit points at level 3 or above, ensuring graduates develop both strong foundational knowledge and advanced specialist expertise for careers in data science, artificial intelligence, analytics, and research.
