COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminology/Bachelor of Laws at Deakin University is a 40-credit-point double degree that combines comprehensive legal education with an in-depth understanding of crime, criminal behaviour, and the justice system. The program includes 16 credit points from the Bachelor of Criminology and 24 credit points from the Bachelor of Laws, with students required to satisfy the academic requirements of both degrees. The Criminology component consists of 6 credit points of core units that establish essential knowledge of criminological theory, crime, and justice, along with 6 credit points of criminology elective units that allow students to explore specialised topics. Students also complete 4 credit points of elective units from Bachelor of Arts major sequences and must undertake a minimum of 6 credit points of Faculty of Arts units at level 3 to ensure advanced disciplinary knowledge. The Law component includes 18 credit points of core units covering key legal principles and professional practice, 1 credit point of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) or practical law elective units, and 5 credit points of law elective units for further specialisation. Students must complete a minimum of 14 credit points at levels 2 and 3, ensuring progressive academic development. This integrated course equips graduates with advanced legal, analytical, research, and critical thinking skills for careers in law, criminal justice, policy, government, and related sectors.
