COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws at Deakin University is a 40-credit-point combined degree that integrates commercial expertise with comprehensive legal education, preparing students for a wide range of professional opportunities. The course structure includes 16 credit points from the Bachelor of Commerce and 24 credit points from the Bachelor of Laws, with students required to satisfy the academic requirements of both programs. The Commerce component consists of 7 credit points of core units, excluding MLC101, along with one major of 8 credit points that allows students to specialise in a chosen business discipline. Students also complete 1 credit point of open elective units and must undertake a minimum of 4 credit points of Faculty of Business and Law units at level 3 to develop advanced knowledge. The Laws component includes 18 credit points of core units covering essential legal concepts and professional skills, 1 credit point of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) or practical course elective units, and 5 credit points of law course elective units that allow further specialisation. The program also includes the compulsory Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin unit in the first study period. By combining business strategy, commercial awareness, and legal expertise, this degree develops graduates with strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills suitable for careers in commercial law, corporate sectors, government, consulting, and related professional fields.
