COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts/Master of Teaching (Secondary) at Deakin University is a 36-credit-point combined program that integrates broad arts knowledge with specialised teacher education, preparing students for a professional career in secondary teaching. The course includes 24 credit points from the Bachelor of Arts and 12 credit points from the Master of Teaching (Secondary), with students required to meet the requirements of both qualifications. The Arts component includes two Arts majors, each consisting of 8 credit points, allowing students to develop strong subject expertise for their future teaching areas. Students also complete education-focused units covering areas such as literacy, numeracy, multi-tiered support systems, brain and learning, education technology, cultural diversity, and humanitarian development, along with additional course electives. The program maintains academic progression requirements, including a maximum of 10 credit points at level 1 and a minimum of 6 credit points at level 3. The Master of Teaching (Secondary) component includes compulsory literacy, numeracy, and trauma-informed practice requirements, 8 credit points of core teaching units, and 4 credit points of electives from two teaching specialist areas. Through this structure, students develop disciplinary knowledge, educational theory, practical teaching strategies, and professional skills required to create effective and inclusive learning environments.
