COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts/Master of International Relations at Deakin University is a 36-credit-point combined program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in arts alongside advanced postgraduate expertise in global affairs. The course structure includes 24 credit points from the Bachelor of Arts and 12 credit points from the Master of International Relations, with students required to satisfy the academic requirements of both degrees. The Arts component begins with the compulsory Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin unit and includes an 8-credit-point International Relations major. Students also complete either a 4-credit-point minor or an additional 8-credit-point major, with flexibility to choose subjects that align with their interests and career goals. The Arts component requires students to complete a maximum of 10 credit points at level 1 and a minimum of 6 credit points at level 3 to ensure advanced learning. The Master of International Relations component includes 4 credit points of core units and additional specialised study through different pathways. Students may undertake a PhD Pathway with a Minor Thesis, a non-PhD Research Paper pathway, or an Internship Capstone pathway combined with specialisation and elective units. This structure integrates theoretical knowledge, research capability, and practical experience, preparing graduates for careers in international relations, diplomacy, policy, security, and global organisations.
