COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) at Deakin University is a 24-credit-point program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in psychology while allowing them to explore broader areas of arts and humanities. The course begins with the compulsory Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin unit, followed by a structured combination of psychology, arts, and elective studies. Students complete 10 credit points of core psychology units that develop essential knowledge of human behaviour, psychological theories, research methods, and applied psychological concepts. Alongside psychology, students undertake one Arts major consisting of 8 credit points, enabling them to build expertise in an additional discipline that complements their career interests and personal goals. The course also includes 2 credit points of Arts units and 4 credit points of open elective units, providing flexibility to explore other fields and develop interdisciplinary skills. Students are encouraged to balance foundational and advanced learning, with a maximum of 10 credit points permitted at first-year level and a minimum requirement of 6 credit points at third-year level or above to ensure deeper academic engagement. This flexible structure allows students to combine specialised psychology knowledge with critical thinking, communication, and creative skills, preparing them for diverse career pathways and further study opportunities.
