COURSE CURRICULUM

The course structure of the Master of Teaching in Secondary Education is designed to develop advanced teaching knowledge, subject expertise, and professional skills required for teaching students in Years 7–12. Over two years, the program combines educational theory, curriculum studies, teaching practices, and professional experience to prepare graduates for secondary school environments. In the first year, students study key areas including Literacy and Numeracy across the Curriculum, Managing the Learning Environment, Teaching in the Secondary School, and Theories of Development and Learning. Students also complete professional experience units focused on lesson planning, assessment, and reporting while selecting a teaching area stream in disciplines such as The Arts, English, Health and Physical Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics, or Science. The second year enhances students’ capabilities through subjects including Creative Technologies, Pedagogies for Diversity, Research-Based Inquiry to Enhance Practice, and Schooling and Australian Society. Students undertake further professional experience units that focus on using data to improve teaching and successfully transitioning into the teaching profession. Additional teaching area options allow students to deepen their expertise in their chosen subjects. Overall, the program integrates theory, practical experience, and specialised curriculum knowledge, preparing graduates with the skills and confidence required for effective secondary teaching and professional registration.
