COURSE CURRICULUM

The course structure of the Master of Teaching in Early Childhood Education is designed to develop professional knowledge, practical teaching skills, and leadership abilities required for working with young children from birth to Year 2. Over two years, the program combines educational theory, curriculum studies, professional practice, and early childhood teaching methodologies. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through subjects such as Developing Positive Learning Environments, Theories of Development and Learning, Family and Community Contexts, and Health, Safety and Physical Education in Early Childhood. Students also undertake professional experience units focused on planning, documentation, assessment, and reporting, while developing skills in early literacy and numeracy education for young learners. The second year expands students’ expertise through studies in Creative and Media Arts, Creative Technologies, Early Literacies and Play-Based Pedagogies, Humanities and Science, and numeracy development across different age groups. Students also explore leadership, management, and educational philosophies in early childhood settings. The final professional experience units focus on using data to improve teaching and successfully transitioning into the teaching profession. Overall, the program provides a balance of academic knowledge and hands-on experience, preparing graduates to create effective learning environments, support child development, and become skilled educators and leaders in early childhood education and care settings.
