COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Professional Accounting major in Taxation is a two-year postgraduate program designed to develop advanced expertise in taxation, accounting, auditing, and financial compliance. In the first year, students establish a strong foundation in accounting and business disciplines through units such as Financial Principles and Analysis, Fundamentals of Business and Corporations Law, Intermediate Financial Accounting, and Intermediate Management Accounting. They further develop their knowledge of modern accounting practices through Accounting Systems in the Digital Age, Intermediate Corporate Accounting, Business Analytics and Data Visualisation, and Global Managerial Economics. In the second year, students specialise in taxation through units including Applied Auditing and Risk Assessment, Fundamentals of Australian Tax Law, Current Taxation Topics, Graduate Curtin Taxation Clinic, and Taxation Administration and Policy. These units provide practical and theoretical knowledge of taxation regulations, compliance processes, advisory practices, and policy development. Students can also select elective units covering areas such as International Taxation, Taxation of Capital Gains, GST and Indirect Taxation, Taxation of Trusts, Advanced Corporate Taxation, Taxation Research, and CPA Ethics and Governance. The program combines professional accounting knowledge with specialised taxation skills, preparing graduates for careers in tax advisory, accounting, auditing, compliance, financial management, and taxation policy roles across private and public sector organisations.
