COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts (Professional Writing and Publishing) is a two-year postgraduate program that combines research, professional writing, and publishing practice through a flexible, industry-focused curriculum. In the first year, students complete core units in Approaches to Arts Research and Planning an Arts Research Project, establishing strong research, analytical, and project planning skills. They then select elective units in areas such as engaging narrative, narrative nonfiction, editing, publishing, creative and professional writing, workplace writing, web communications, writing for the web, innovation by design, and professional writing, allowing them to develop expertise across multiple forms of written communication. In the second year, students complete either a Masters Professional or Creative Project or a Masters Research Project, providing the opportunity to undertake an independent research or industry-based project. Students further enhance their knowledge by choosing electives in publishing studio, advanced narrative nonfiction, advanced workplace writing, business project management, professional experience, social media and online communities, Indigenous literature, travel writing, and digital communication. The program develops advanced writing, editing, publishing, communication, and project management skills while preparing graduates for careers in publishing, corporate communications, government, media, content development, marketing, public relations, not-for-profit organisations, and the magazine and book publishing industries through a combination of practical learning and professional experience.
