COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts (Creative Writing) is a two-year postgraduate program that combines research, professional development, and advanced creative writing practice through a flexible curriculum. In the first year, students complete core units in Approaches to Arts Research and Planning an Arts Research Project, building a strong foundation in academic research methods and project planning. They also choose from a variety of elective units, including travel writing, long fiction, short fiction, writing for children, genre fiction, poetry, experimental writing, engaging narrative, narrative nonfiction, editing, and Australian Indigenous literature. In the second year, students complete either a professional or creative project or a research project, enabling them to apply their learning through a substantial independent piece of work. They can further personalise their studies by selecting additional electives in publishing, advanced narrative nonfiction, web communications, professional writing, editing, and professional experience. This flexible course structure allows students to develop specialised expertise while enhancing their research, writing, editing, and communication skills. By combining creative exploration with practical industry knowledge and research experience, the program prepares graduates for careers in publishing, media, education, digital communications, professional writing, content creation, and a wide range of creative industries.
