COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning course structure is designed to progressively develop knowledge and practical skills across four years. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation by studying topics such as sustainability, cultural and diversity planning, introduction to planning, urban analysis, governance, planning graphics and design, transport systems, and sustainable urban development. In Year 2, the focus shifts to more applied areas, including environmental planning, local planning, economic development, housing, land and development economics, participatory planning, and site planning. These subjects help students understand how planning decisions impact communities and environments. In Year 3, students explore advanced concepts such as planning history and theory, research methods, urban regeneration, planning analytics, and professional practice, which prepares them for real-world planning challenges. In Year 4, students choose between an honours stream or a standard planning stream, completing a significant portion of credit points based on their selection. They also select a specialization, such as environmental planning, graphics, international development, landscape and natural resource management, or social inclusion and equity, allowing them to tailor their studies to their interests. Overall, the course combines theoretical learning, practical application, and specialization to prepare students for careers in urban and regional planning.
