COURSE CURRICULUM

The course structure of the Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology (Honours) is designed to progressively build knowledge, clinical skills, and professional experience over four years. In the first year, students study foundational communication science units alongside interprofessional courses, allowing them to learn and collaborate with peers from other health science disciplines. This helps develop teamwork skills and a broader understanding of healthcare practice. During the second and third years, students focus on key areas of speech pathology practice, gaining the knowledge and expertise required to assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of communication and swallowing disorders. These years also include supervised clinical placements, where students apply their learning in real-world settings such as on-campus clinics and community environments. Opportunities may include rural, remote, and international fieldwork, providing diverse and valuable experiences. In the fourth and final year, students continue with advanced supervised clinical placements to further refine their practical skills and professional confidence. Alongside this, they complete an individual research project or a collaborative honours project, enhancing their analytical and research abilities. Overall, the course combines academic learning, clinical practice, and research to prepare graduates for professional careers in speech pathology.
