COURSE CURRICULUM

In this course, the first year focuses on an interprofessional learning approach, where students develop the foundational skills needed to work effectively within healthcare teams while gaining an understanding of the physical, structural, and physiological aspects of human movement. As the program progresses, students study key areas such as musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, cardiorespiratory, and neurological sciences, along with specialized topics including gerontology, paediatrics, gender health issues, and pain management. The course emphasizes the ability to analyse research evidence alongside individual patient perspectives and their health environments to determine the most appropriate treatment strategies. Students also develop essential professional skills such as empathic listening for accurate diagnosis, problem-solving to overcome clinical challenges, and reflective practice to evaluate and improve treatment outcomes. In the third and fourth years, students engage in group-based professional projects that enhance collaboration and practical application of their knowledge. High-achieving students may also have the opportunity to undertake an honours research project under academic supervision, which can lead to the completion and possible publication of a small research study. Overall, the program combines scientific knowledge, clinical skills, and research experience to prepare students for effective physiotherapy practice.
