COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mineral Processing program is structured to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in mineral extraction, metallurgical processes, and the operation of mineral processing plants. After completing foundational studies in the first year, students progress to specialized coursework in the second year, beginning with Fundamentals of Mineral Processing and Applied Metallurgical Chemistry. These subjects introduce students to the principles of mineral separation, material transformation, chemical reactions, and the scientific processes involved in converting mined resources into valuable products. In the second semester, students study Process Instrumentation and Control and Hydrometallurgy, developing expertise in process monitoring, automation, and chemical methods used for mineral recovery. In the third year, students advance their technical knowledge through Pyrometallurgy, which focuses on high-temperature extraction processes, and select either STEM Professional Practice or Physical Metallurgy to strengthen professional skills or materials knowledge. Students further develop their expertise through Advanced Mineral Processing and choose between STEM Professional Practice or a Metallurgy and Mining Project, providing opportunities for industry-focused learning and practical application. The program integrates scientific principles, engineering techniques, sustainability considerations, and industry practices to prepare graduates for careers in mineral processing, metallurgy, mining operations, and resource management. Overall, students gain the analytical, technical, and problem-solving abilities required to design, optimize, and manage efficient and sustainable mineral processing systems.
