COURSE CURRICULUM

This course provides a comprehensive education in nursing by combining biological sciences, mental health studies, and practical nursing skills to prepare students for compassionate, evidence-based care. A strong emphasis is placed on leadership development, helping students build the qualities needed to become effective and confident healthcare professionals. Mental health is a key focus throughout the program, with multiple specialized units designed to deepen understanding and integrate mental health principles into holistic patient care. The course also highlights sustainability and planetary health, exploring how environmental factors influence overall wellbeing, with a dedicated unit in the third year. Students gain extensive hands-on experience through simulated learning and immersive fieldwork, including 840 hours of clinical placements across a variety of settings such as hospitals, private practices, aged care facilities, rural health services, and mental health environments. These placements provide valuable real-world experience and may be supported by financial assistance such as the Commonwealth Prac Payment. Collaboration is another important aspect, as students learn alongside medical and allied health professionals to develop teamwork skills essential in healthcare. While rewarding, the course is physically and mentally demanding, requiring commitment, resilience, and readiness to meet its inherent requirements.
