COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering) (Honours), Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) course structure combines engineering design, industrial processes and advanced chemistry to develop a comprehensive understanding of chemical systems and their applications. In the first year, students complete the Bachelor of Engineering Pre-Major, building foundational knowledge in mathematics, science, engineering principles and problem-solving. The second year introduces core chemical engineering concepts through units such as Principles and Processes in Chemistry, Mass and Energy Balances, Process Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Process Mass Transfer and Process Simulation and Data Analytics. In the third year, students deepen their expertise in chemical science and engineering through studies in chemical energetics, spectroscopy, reaction engineering, process design, computational transport phenomena and process control. The fourth year focuses on advanced chemistry and engineering applications, including analytical chemistry, synthetic methods, fluid and particle processes, research projects, sustainability and engineering management. In the final year, students develop professional engineering capabilities through process safety, advanced unit operations, industry research projects and a major chemical engineering design project. Students can also specialise through options such as metal extraction processes, mineral processing, data analytics and control, transitional energy technologies or flexible engineering minors. This comprehensive program prepares graduates for careers in chemical engineering, energy, resources, research, manufacturing and advanced laboratory industries.
