COURSE CURRICULUM

The course structure of the Bachelor of Applied Geology, Bachelor of Science (Environmental Biology) double degree integrates geological science with ecological and environmental expertise to develop skills for sustainable resource management and environmental protection. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in geology, biology, environmental systems, statistics, Indigenous science perspectives, land and water resources, planetary science, and chemistry. The second year expands students’ understanding of Earth and biological processes through studies in animal diversity, evolution, geophysical exploration, mineralogy, geochemistry, quantitative biology, ecotoxicology, petrology, plant diversity, adaptation, and sedimentology. In the third year, students develop practical and analytical skills through field geology techniques, structural geology, terrestrial ecology, wildlife conservation, applied genetics, Earth resources, and geological field mapping. The fourth year focuses on advanced environmental and geological applications, including environmental impact assessment, habitat and landform mapping, climate and biosphere studies, hydrogeology, ore deposits, basin dynamics, environmental research projects, restoration, tectonics, environmental geoscience, and mineral exploration. Through laboratory studies, fieldwork, research projects, and interdisciplinary learning, students gain the ability to assess geological resources while understanding ecological impacts and sustainability requirements. Graduates are prepared for careers in environmental consulting, mining, resource management, conservation, rehabilitation, geological exploration, and sustainable development, where balancing resource use with environmental protection is essential.
