COURSE CURRICULUM

The course structure of the Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) in Molecular Genetics is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge in genetics, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and biotechnology while developing research, leadership, and entrepreneurship skills. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in science through studies in biology, chemistry, mathematics, programming, statistics, molecular genetics, cell biology, applied genetics, and population genetics. The second year expands students’ understanding of biological processes through studies in biological chemistry, infectious microbiology, agricultural microbiology, and bioinformatics, supported by research, leadership, and entrepreneurship training. In the third year, students explore advanced topics including human genetic disease, molecular biology, genetic engineering, medicinal chemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, biomolecular interactions, and integrated biological applications. The final year focuses on advanced research and professional practice, including molecular virology and completion of a major dissertation or advanced science capstone project in areas such as agriculture, food science, environmental science, or marine science. Throughout the course, students gain expertise in analysing genetic information, applying molecular techniques, and using computational tools to investigate biological challenges. The program prepares graduates for careers in biotechnology, healthcare, agriculture, environmental science, research, and other fields where molecular genetics and bioinformatics are essential for innovation and solving global challenges.
