COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Veterinary Biology / Bachelor of Veterinary Science at Charles Sturt University is an extensive and professionally accredited program designed to prepare students for a career as a qualified veterinarian. The core structure, totaling 360 credit points, provides a strong foundation in animal science, biological sciences, and veterinary medicine. Students begin with essential subjects such as animal genetics, nutrition, reproduction, chemistry, biochemistry, and animal production and welfare, alongside foundational veterinary biology and practice units. As the program progresses, students study advanced areas including veterinary anatomy, physiology, histology, immunology, microbiology, parasitology, pharmacology, pathology, epidemiology, and diagnostic reasoning. The degree also covers population medicine, public health, biosecurity, and both companion and production animal medicine and surgery. Extensive clinical training is a key feature, with multiple veterinary practice units and clinical rotations in areas such as equine practice, small animal practice, dairy cattle practice, rural practice, diagnostic services, state veterinary medicine, and extramural studies. Students also complete professional practice training and a transition-to-the-profession unit to prepare for real-world veterinary work. The compulsory clinical rotation component further strengthens advanced skills in specialist and mixed practice environments.
