COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Cyber Security) at Charles Sturt University provides a strong foundation in core IT knowledge combined with specialised cyber security training. The core subjects, totaling 86 credit points, develop essential skills in programming principles, database systems, computer systems, internet technologies, systems analysis and design, ICT project management, and communication and information management. Students also study network forensics, IT ethics and professional practice, and complete workplace learning through an IT work placement, helping them gain real industry experience. Additional professional development subjects such as personal portfolio building, emotional intelligence, resilience for the workplace, and data analysis and insights prepare students for modern IT careers. The program includes a Cyber Security major (64 credit points), focusing on protecting systems, detecting threats, and managing digital security risks. Students also have the option to complete a 32-credit-point minor in areas such as cyber security, network engineering, entrepreneurship, management and leadership, psychology, software development, or web development, allowing them to broaden their expertise. An unrestricted elective further enhances flexibility in learning. Overall, this degree equips students with both technical and professional skills needed to work in the fast-growing IT and cyber security industry, preparing them for careers in network protection, information security, systems administration, and technology consulting in Australia and globally.
