COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Equine Science at Charles Sturt University provides a comprehensive and industry-focused education for students passionate about working with horses and the equine industry. The core program includes 112 credit points of essential subjects covering equine life systems, horse behaviour and training, equine health and disease, disease prevention, nutrition, locomotion, breeding management, injury and rehabilitation, equine property design, and contemporary issues in equine science. Students also gain practical experience through industry professional practice and develop an understanding of First Nations perspectives in relation to land and animal management. The non-major component adds 64 credit points of compulsory subjects, including applied statistics and animal epidemiology, animal pharmacology, extension studies, chemical fundamentals, equine exercise physiology, industry governance, and horse breeding technologies. Students further choose a restricted elective subject from areas such as parasitology, animal health, pasture management, or advanced topics, allowing deeper specialization. The program also includes an Agribusiness Management major, which builds knowledge in business operations, marketing, and management within agricultural and equine industries. Additionally, students complete unrestricted electives that provide further flexibility in their learning. Overall, this degree equips graduates with strong scientific understanding, practical horse-handling skills, and business knowledge, preparing them for diverse careers in equine health, breeding, training, rehabilitation, research, and equine business management in Australia and globally.
