COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Speech Pathology is a 160-credit-point graduate-entry program made up of 15 core units designed to develop the knowledge, clinical skills, and professional competence required for speech pathology practice. The course begins with foundational units such as Communication, Culture and Context, Communication Across the Lifespan, and Foundations of Communication Analysis, which build understanding of human communication and its development. Students also study research methods through Research, Ethics and Impact, supporting evidence-based clinical practice. Core clinical subjects cover key areas including swallowing and mealtime management, early childhood speech and language disorders, acquired language disorders, fluency and voice disorders, and motor speech disorders across both children and adults. Additional units focus on diversity in communication and working with school-aged children and those with complex needs, ensuring students are prepared to work with varied populations. Professional identity and practice are developed through progressive practice-based units, including three major Speech Pathology Professional Practice placements that provide supervised real-world clinical experience. These placements allow students to apply theoretical knowledge in healthcare, educational, and community settings. Overall, the program integrates academic learning, clinical training, and research to prepare graduates for professional registration and careers in hospitals, schools, rehabilitation services, and community health environments as qualified speech pathologists.
