COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Project Management is structured to provide a balance between theoretical foundations and hands-on practical experience, ensuring graduates are prepared for leadership roles in managing projects of varying scope and complexity. The program consists of core units, a professional placement, and elective units. The core units build a strong understanding of project management concepts and tools essential for planning, implementing, and evaluating projects. In the second year, students undertake a placement that provides valuable industry experience, helping them transition smoothly into professional practice.The course emphasizes the integration of theory and practice through case studies, collaborative projects, and applied exercises. Students will develop skills in risk management, negotiation, data-driven decision-making, and strategic leadership. The program also explores key areas such as sustainability, finance, law, artificial intelligence, and resource planning—enabling graduates to manage contemporary challenges in global project environments.A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 160 credit points. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise indicated. The core component includes 13 units (140 credit points), covering engineering and management topics such as project management, risk and reliability, portfolio management, commercial law, and business intelligence. The placement unit, PRT603 Professional Practice for Project Management (20 credit points), allows students to apply their academic learning in a professional setting through practical or project-related activity. Additionally, students must complete two elective units (20 credit points) chosen from postgraduate offerings across the university.Recent course updates have aligned the program with evolving industry standards by introducing new core units such as ECO505 Economics of Sustainability, MAN500 Strategic Management, and PRT596 Human Centred Artificial Intelligence. The inclusion of practical placement and data-focused units ensures that graduates are equipped with the analytical, managerial, and professional capabilities required to lead successful projects in today’s complex and technology-driven landscape.
