COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Medical Laboratory Science is a 160-credit-point program consisting of 14 core units that provide comprehensive training in diagnostic pathology and laboratory medicine. The course is designed to develop advanced scientific knowledge, technical skills, and professional competence required for modern medical laboratory practice. Students begin with foundational subjects such as Haematology, Clinical Chemistry, Histology and Histochemistry, Biotechnology and Genomics, and Pathophysiology, which build a strong understanding of disease processes and laboratory techniques. The program then progresses to specialized areas including Anatomical Pathology, Immunohaematology, Diagnostic Haematology, Mycology, Virology and Parasitology, and Bacteriology, ensuring broad expertise across major diagnostic disciplines. Research skills training is included to develop evidence-based practice and analytical thinking essential for healthcare environments. A key feature of the course is the inclusion of two major professional placements, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in real clinical laboratory settings and apply theoretical knowledge to practical diagnostic work.
