COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering program is structured over 240 credit points and combines undergraduate foundation studies, postgraduate coursework, specialist mechanical training, and research-based learning. It begins with a core undergraduate unit in Mathematics 2A, followed by 70 credit points of undergraduate specialist electives that establish strong fundamentals in statics, mechanics of solids, manufacturing technologies, fluid and thermodynamics, dynamics, machine design principles, and materials engineering. These subjects build essential knowledge of mechanical systems, structural behaviour, energy transfer, and manufacturing processes. At the postgraduate level, students complete 50 credit points of core units that focus on sustainability, project management, risk and reliability, machine learning, artificial intelligence, algorithms, and professional engineering practice, developing advanced technical, analytical, and leadership skills. This is supported by 70 credit points of postgraduate specialist electives covering advanced mechanical engineering areas such as dynamics of engineering systems, control engineering, applied fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, engines and turbomachinery, machine design, and renewable energy systems. The program also includes 40 credit points of research training, where students complete academic and industry research development units followed by either an industry design and research project or an academic research thesis. Overall, the course integrates theoretical knowledge, practical application, and research experience to prepare graduates for advanced careers in mechanical engineering and related industries.
