COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering requires students to complete a total of 160 credit points through a structured combination of core study, specialist electives, and research-based learning. The program includes 50 credit points of compulsory core units that develop essential engineering and professional skills in areas such as sustainability, project management, risk and reliability, machine learning, artificial intelligence, algorithms, competitiveness, and engineering practice. These core subjects prepare students with strong analytical, leadership, and problem-solving abilities required in modern engineering environments. Students then complete 70 credit points of specialist elective units focused on advanced mechanical engineering topics. These include dynamics of engineering systems, control engineering, applied fluid mechanics, machine design, applied heat and mass transfer, engines and turbomachinery, and renewable energy systems. This combination of subjects builds strong expertise in mechanical systems, energy conversion, design, and industrial applications. In addition, students undertake 40 credit points of research units designed to enhance academic and industry research capabilities. This includes completing units in academic research and industry research and development, followed by either an industry-based design and research project or an academic research thesis. Overall, the program integrates technical knowledge, practical application, and research training to prepare graduates for advanced mechanical engineering roles in industry, innovation, and sustainable technology development.
