COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Social Work is a 320-credit-point professionally accredited degree designed to prepare students for ethical, skilled, and practice-ready roles as social workers. The program includes 300 credit points of core units that build comprehensive knowledge and practical competence across key areas of social work, human services, psychology, sociology, Indigenous perspectives, social policy, and research methods. Students begin with foundational subjects such as introduction to human services, communication skills, and psychology, before progressing to advanced social work theory, practice, and specialised areas including mental health, child and family practice, grief and loss, legal issues, and community development. The course places strong emphasis on First Nations health perspectives, cultural safety, ethics, human rights, and social justice, ensuring graduates are prepared to work respectfully with diverse populations. Practical learning is a major component, including structured 5-day intensive workshops and two major field education placements (Field Education A and B), which provide real-world experience in professional social work settings. These placements are essential for developing applied skills in casework, counselling, advocacy, and community engagement. In addition, students complete 20 credit points of electives to broaden their learning. Overall, the degree integrates theory, intensive training, and extensive fieldwork to produce competent, reflective, and practice-ready social workers.
