COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Laws degree provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the Australian legal system, combining theoretical knowledge with practical learning. It is available in both internal and external modes of study, ensuring flexibility for all learners. External students benefit from access to recorded lectures and live online tutorials through the university’s learning platform, allowing them to complete the program from anywhere in the world. To successfully graduate, students must complete 240 credit points, with each unit valued at 10 credit points. The course structure includes 13 core units totaling 130 credit points and 11 specialist elective units totaling 110 credit points. Core units cover essential areas such as Criminal Law, Legal Process, Torts, Contracts, Constitutional Law, Corporations Law, Evidence, and Professional Responsibility. Specialist electives allow students to tailor their learning by selecting from a wide range of topics, including Human Rights Law, Environmental and Planning Law, Family Law, Public International Law, Dispute Resolution, and Intellectual Property Law. Students planning to pursue Honours can apply for the one-year Bachelor of Laws (Honours) upon completion of this course. The course requires a maximum of 100 credit points from 100-level units and at least 60 credit points from 300-level units or above, ensuring academic progression and depth of study. Over the years, the program has undergone several transitional updates to maintain relevance, including the reclassification of Comparative Legal Systems, the discontinuation of certain units, and the addition of new electives such as Law in Context. These changes ensure that the degree continues to align with evolving legal education standards. The Bachelor of Laws provides students with the academic foundation and analytical skills necessary for advanced legal study, professional legal practice, or careers requiring a strong understanding of law and justice.
