COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering Technologist (Civil and Structural Engineering stream) is a 240-credit-point program designed to develop applied engineering skills and technical knowledge for infrastructure and construction-related careers. The course includes 140 credit points of core units that provide a strong foundation in mathematics, physics, engineering principles, design innovation, software systems, project management, safety, risk, and professional engineering practice. Students also undertake research and design training through applied projects that build problem-solving ability, analytical thinking, and industry readiness. These core studies ensure graduates understand essential engineering concepts and can apply them in real-world contexts. In addition, students complete 80 credit points of specialist elective units focused on Civil and Structural Engineering. These include subjects such as mechanics of solids, surveying and construction, fluid and thermodynamics, dynamics, materials engineering, hydraulics and soil mechanics, steel and concrete structures, and geomechanics. This stream prepares students for roles in infrastructure development, construction, and structural analysis by combining theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Finally, students complete 20 credit points of general electives chosen from across the university at the 100–300 level, allowing flexibility in their learning pathway. Overall, the program integrates core engineering fundamentals, specialised civil and structural knowledge, and applied project work to prepare graduates for professional roles in infrastructure design, construction, and engineering technology industries.
