The Software Design and Development Major within the Master of Information Technology is an 11-unit specialisation designed to build advanced expertise in creating reliable, scalable, and high-performance software systems for modern enterprise environments. The program starts with core ICT foundation units including Introduction to Programming (COIT20245), Cyber Security and Networking (COIT20246), Information Systems Analysis and Design (COIT20248), Database Design and Development (COIT20247), Project Management Concepts (PPMP20007), and Professional Skills and Ethics in ICT (COIT20249), which collectively establish strong programming, systems thinking, and professional practice skills. These foundational subjects ensure students understand both technical and organisational aspects of software development. The major then progresses into advanced topics such as Object-Oriented Development (COIT20256), Distributed Systems: Principles and Development (COIT20257), Software Engineering (COIT20258), and Enterprise Computing Architecture (COIT20259), focusing on designing robust architectures, distributed computing systems, and industry-standard development methodologies used in large-scale applications.
