COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Podiatry (Honours) at CQUniversity requires the completion of 31 units, totalling 192 credits, and is designed to provide students with the essential theoretical knowledge and practical experience required for podiatric practice. The program begins with foundational units in health and biomedical sciences before progressing into specialised podiatry studies and extensive clinical training. In the early stages of the course, students study subjects such as Introduction to Allied Health Practice, Research Methods for Health Professionals, Foundations of Health, Fundamentals of Psychology, and Medical Anatomy and Physiology. These units establish a strong grounding in health sciences, human behaviour, and biological systems. Some of these subjects include residential schools, offering valuable opportunities for practical, hands-on learning. As the program advances, students move into podiatry-specific areas including Advanced Anatomy and Podiatric Biomechanics, Gerontology in Podiatry Practice, Neurovascular Medicine, Sports Podiatry, Paediatrics, Diabetes in Podiatry Practice, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Medicine, Surgery in Podiatry, High-Risk Foot and Chronic Wound Care, and Complex Cases in Podiatry Practice. These units equip students to manage a wide range of podiatric conditions, addressing both general and complex patient needs across different age groups and health conditionsClinical practice placements are a key component of the program. Starting with Podiatry Clinical Practice 1 and progressing through to Podiatry Clinical Practice 5, students gain supervised experience in real healthcare environments. These placements build diagnostic and therapeutic skills, enhance patient care abilities, and develop confidence in applying theory to practice. The course also includes advanced training in pharmacology, evidence-based practice, and professional podiatry practice, ensuring graduates are prepared for independent decision-making, ethical care, and lifelong learning in the profession.Upon completion, graduates will be fully prepared to register and practice as podiatrists, capable of working in hospitals, private practices, sports clinics, and community health services, making a meaningful contribution to improving patient mobility, health, and overall quality of life.
