COURSE CURRICULUM

The Clinical Physiology major is designed to prepare students for careers in clinical physiology, healthcare science, and medical diagnostics by developing specialised knowledge of human body systems and physiological measurement techniques. Students in this course must complete 23 or 24 units (144 credits), including the core structure, the seven-unit Clinical Physiology major, and two four-unit minors. The major is offered on-campus in Bundaberg and Rockhampton, while domestic students also have the option to study online with compulsory residential schools for practical training. Core subjects within the major include Cardiorespiratory Physiology and Measurement, Neurological Physiology and Measurement, Sleep Physiology and Measurement, Medical Pathophysiology, Advanced Cardiovascular and Respiratory Measurement, Advanced Neurophysiological Measurement, and Work Integrated Learning. These units provide students with strong understanding of cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, and sleep-related physiological systems along with practical diagnostic and measurement skills used in clinical environments. The Biomedical minor is highly recommended for students planning to work as Clinical Physiologists or Clinical Scientists, as it provides essential biomedical knowledge required for safe professional practice. Combined with the Research minor, it also creates a strong pathway toward future Graduate Medical studies. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in hospitals, sleep clinics, diagnostic laboratories, and healthcare services through a combination of scientific knowledge, clinical skills, and practical industry experience.
