COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biotechnology major is part of a flexible course structure in which students must complete 23 or 24 units (144 credits), including a core structure of 8 units, followed by either one major or one major combined with minors depending on the chosen study pathway. The program is designed to provide strong theoretical and practical knowledge in biological sciences, biotechnology, and medical research. Core units include Professional Practice in Medical Sciences, Atoms, Molecules and Matter, Microbiology, Foundations of Biochemistry, Foundations of Immunology, and Advanced Work Integrated Learning, along with elective anatomy and physiology subjects. The Biotechnology major includes advanced studies in Cell and Tissue Biology, Molecular Cell Biology, Applied Immunology, Clinical Biochemistry, Medical Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Drug Discovery and Clinical Trials, and Molecular Targeted Therapies. These units focus on disease mechanisms, laboratory science, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology innovations used in healthcare and research industries. The course also offers flexibility through minors such as Diagnostic Pathology, Food Technology, Research, Chemistry, Entrepreneurship, and Pathway to Teaching, allowing students to tailor their studies according to career goals. Strong emphasis is placed on laboratory-based practical learning, internships, and research experience. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, pathology, healthcare, food technology, and scientific research with strong technical, analytical, and laboratory skills.
