COURSE CURRICULUM

The Resource Systems Engineering major is a multidisciplinary program focused on modern mining operations, resource extraction, and intelligent mining systems. It begins with foundational units such as Programming Fundamentals, Systems Analysis, Engineering Statics, Materials for Engineers, and Fundamentals of Sustainable Energy, which build essential analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills. Students then study core mining and earth science subjects including Introduction to Mining Technology, Earth Science, Engineering Surveying and Spatial Sciences, Rock Engineering, Mine Management and Safety, Mine Planning and Design, and Economic Geology. These units develop strong understanding of mining processes, geology, and safe operational practices. The program also includes electrical and electronic engineering fundamentals such as Electrical Circuit Analysis, Introductory Electronics, Signals and Systems, and Industrial Control and Automation, which support automation and modern mining technologies. Data and computing skills are developed through Programming Fundamentals, Systems Analysis, Database Design and Implementation, and Data Science, enabling students to analyse mining data and improve decision-making. Advanced learning is applied through Resource Systems Automation Project and Resource Systems Feasibility Project, which simulate real industry challenges. Engineering Surveying and Spatial Sciences further strengthens field-based understanding. Overall, this major prepares graduates for careers in mining engineering, resource management, automation systems, and data-driven mining operations, with a strong focus on safety, sustainability, innovation, and modern mining technologies.
